User-submitted Reference

A Sicilian family, to which the Ministerial Decree of October 6, 1927 recognized the title of baron with a primogenous male succession. The family participated in the history of Naples and its affairs during the past, concurrently with the nobility and institutional offices of the same city, made by the kings who reigned in the Duchy of Naples. Many kingdoms have passed through this Byzantine province, straight from a dux. In 638 Naples was a governor of Sicily and later governed directly by the emperor. Duke Bishop Stephen II was the first of the elective elders to succeed for about a century, followed by hereditary dukes. In addition to Naples, the ducat included Pozzuoli, Cuma, Sorrento and the Work Land.
